Painting is not one technique but a collection of different ways of working with colour, texture, water and pigment. Each medium has its own characteristics, and learning to work with it can change how you approach an image.
At Fabrique Bilingue, our Painting Workshop is led by Caroline Leary, a local French-American painter. Across a series of sessions, participants explore one medium at a time, with practical guidance, examples and suggestions to help them develop their own approach. Discover Caroline and her work here.
One medium at a time
The workshop explores acrylics, gouache, watercolours, watercolour pencils and mixed media. Rather than switching between materials in a single session, the format allows participants to spend several sessions getting to know one medium.
Caroline offers tips and guidance throughout the process. When useful, she can also provide models, visual references and suggestions to help participants get started or take their work in a new direction.
The aim is to provide practical tools without prescribing a single outcome. You can experiment with a technique, interpret a reference or develop an idea of your own.
Learn by experimenting
The workshop is open to adults and teenagers of all skill levels, including people who have never taken a painting class.
Returning to the same medium over several sessions gives you time to understand how it behaves, try different approaches and build on what you have learned. Everyone can work at their own pace and make their own creative decisions.
The sessions take place in English, providing a natural opportunity to exchange ideas and talk about your work as you paint.
Thursday evenings with Caroline
Join Caroline on Thursdays from 7 to 8:30 pm at Fabrique Bilingue, Darwin Écosystème, Bordeaux.
Drop-in sessions are listed at €20, with trimester and annual registration options also available.
